What is the Step-by-Step program?
The Step-by-Step program promotes child-centered education, teaching oriented on the child’s needs and interests, training customization, teaching organized in activity centers, family and community involvement in the process of school education, respecting and appreciating human diversity, supporting children who come from disadvantaged groups. Equally important is the environment where children carry out their daily activity, as such an environment should be friendly, attractive, stimulative and rich in learning resources.
Throughout its methodology, the Step-by-Step program promotes the child’s personal initiative, consolidates self-esteem, freedom of thought and expression, respect for other, all these being necessary qualities for living in a democratic society.
The Step-by-Step program trains students for life, stemming from John Dewey’s idea that school, through everything that it encompasses, is part of life. The long-term purpose of this program is to consolidate long-term learning skills, which are easily recognized through a series of traits: curiosity, empathy, creativity, productivity. In order to better prepare the student for the future, for a constantly-changing world, educating his/her wish to learn forever is assumed as an essential feature.
